LP Board Members Partner with SVDP Food Pantry for the First Naloxone Distribution Event

This past week, LP had the privilege of partnering once again with the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry for a heartfelt and impactful outreach event. Two of our board members collaborated with volunteers to distribute free Narcan (Naloxone) kits to local community members, equipping them with a powerful, life-saving resource in the fight against opioid overdoses. The turnout was inspiring as we distributed 142 cartons, totaling 284 individual devices. Even more powerful was the resounding receptiveness and gratitude from those we met. For many, these kits represented hope, safety, and a concrete way to protect their loved ones and neighborhoods.

Throughout the day, we heard deeply personal stories that reminded us why this work matters. One woman beamed as she shared that today marked her one-year anniversary of sobriety—a milestone we were honored to witness and celebrate with her. Several others spoke of taking Narcan back to their places of business or housing communities, determined to make overdose prevention more accessible where it's needed most. A particularly emotional moment came when one attendee bravely opened up about losing her best friend to an overdose, and about her brother, who has struggled with heroin addiction for over three decades. Her pain was palpable, but so was her determination to help others avoid similar loss.

Events like these underscore just how critical community connections are in tackling public health crises. It’s not just about distributing supplies—it’s about listening, empowering, and standing in solidarity with those affected. The Lumina Project is incredibly grateful to SVDP for their partnership and the trust they place in our mission. We're already looking ahead, eager to organize another Narcan drive with them soon, and continue building a more compassionate, better-equipped community—one conversation, one life-saving kit, and one story at a time.
