Connecting Through Care: LP Tables at the McLean County Care Fair to Provide Essential Resources

Thursday, May 21st, 2026

On Thursday, the Lumina Project had the privilege to participate in the McLean County Care Fair Event hosted by the Center for Human Services and Eastview Christian Church Community Center. Alongside 22 other organizations dedicated to serving the Bloomington-Normal community, three of our co-founders spent the afternoon connecting with individuals, distributing essential supplies, and sharing our mission of reducing barriers to health.

Throughout the event, our table offered a wide range of everyday necessities and harm-reduction resources. We distributed Naloxone (Narcan) devices, hygiene products such as lip balm, toothbrushes, toothpaste, Q-tips, and nail files, as well as pre-assembled care packages containing soap, deodorant, lotion, and other daily essentials. We also provided beverage options for attendees stopping by throughout. While these items may seem simple, access to basic necessities can make a meaningful difference for individuals facing housing insecurity, financial hardship, or limited access to care.

What stood out most to our team, however, was the overwhelming gratitude and openness shown by the people we met. We encountered countless individuals eager not only to receive supplies, but also to learn more about our outreach efforts and the work being done throughout the community. Events like this also serve as valuable opportunities to collaborate with fellow organizations working toward similar goals, helping us identify new partnerships and ways to expand our reach.

One encounter in particular deeply resonated with our team. A woman named Donita initially approached our table in search of basic supplies, but as we spoke with her, she shared a much greater need for shelter, stability, and support. Donita’s story is one we will be sharing in greater detail in a future post, as it highlights both the challenges many individuals in our community continue to face and the importance of compassionate, community-driven outreach.

Overall, the Care Fair was an incredible success for The Lumina Project. The event exposed us to new ideas, strengthened relationships with other organizations, and allowed us to directly support members of our community in a meaningful way.
