LP Board Members Embark on a Day of Narcan Distribution at 8 Bloomington-Normal Locations

Today was a remarkable day for The Lumina Project. Two of our Board Members, Parker and Quentin, hit the road to distribute life-saving Narcan and other medical supplies to our community. Thanks to a partnership with Chestnut Health Systems, we were able to stock up on Narcan and ensure it reached the hands of those who may need it most. We visited eight different locations across the Bloomington-Normal area, delivering 24 Narcan devices to each stop. Every distribution was an opportunity not only to hand out supplies, but also to connect with residents and provide resources that can save lives.

Our stops today included Landing Estates, Ironwood Gardens Apartments, Red Roof Inn, TA Travel Center, Days Inn by Wyndham, J.P. Kane Homes, Woodhill Towers Apartments, and Phoenix Towers Apartments. Each of these locations represents a part of our community where the presence of Narcan can mean the difference between tragedy and recovery. While our focus was on Narcan distribution, these visits also allowed us to assess needs, strengthen community relationships, and raise awareness about overdose prevention.

In just one day, The Lumina Project distributed 192 devices of Narcan to these eight sites.

Combined with previous efforts this summer, including major events at St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, we’ve now placed 676 devices of Narcan into the Bloomington-Normal community this season, along with other important harm reduction supplies such as Deterra bags, fentanyl and xylazine testing strips, CPR face shields, and hand sanitizer. These numbers are more than statistics; they represent lives that can be saved and families that can be spared the pain of losing a loved one.

We consider today’s effort a huge success, but our mission is far from over. We plan to continue returning to these same locations while also seeking out new areas where resources are scarce. The Lumina Project remains committed to ensuring that everyone in our community—regardless of where they live—has access to the tools needed to prevent overdose deaths. With the continued support of our partners, volunteers, and donors, we can continue to make days like today a regular part of our impact in Bloomington-Normal.
